'BAD BOYS FOR LIFE' IS FRANCHISE'S HIGHEST-GROSSING FILM AFTER 3RD STRAIGHT WEEK ATOP BOX OFFICE

Martin Lawrence and Will Smith's box office domination continued, as Bad Boys for Life topped the box office once again, becoming the franchise's highest-grossing film. After just 17 days in theaters, the third installment in the franchise has generated $291 million at the global box office, Variety reports. That's $20 million more than the $271 million that Bad Boys IIpulled in during its theatrical run. 1995's Bad Boys ended up grossing $141 million worldwide by comparison. $17.7 million of Bad Boy's for Life's total came this weekend, giving its third straight week at number one domestically. The film has now earned $148 million in the United States alone. Following Bad Boy's for Life's box office supremacy is 1917. So far, 1917 has amassed $249 million globally and this number is expected to spike if the film wins a Best Picture Oscar, as many are predicting. Unfortunately for both Bad Boys for Life and 1917, their time atop the box office will likely come to an end next week, when DC's newest movie, Birds of Prey storms into theaters. The success of the latest Bad Boys sequel means that we're all but guaranteed a fourth installment, which is already reportedly in the works. That means we won't have to wait another 17 years, which is how much time passed between parts two and three.  "The script wasn't right," Lawrence said of the wait between the films. "And Will, to his credit, refused to do the movie until the script was right. It wouldn't have been a good movie. We didn't want that. We wanted to do a sequel where people would go, 'Oh, man, that's what I'm talking about. It just gets better.'"

DROPS THIS WEEK: YEEZY BOOST 700 MNVN TRIPLE BLACK

Plenty of new YEEZY BOOST 350 silhouettes are in the works for 2020, but that’s far from the only Kanye West-approved silhouette emerging this year. The eagerly-awaited adidas YEEZY BOOST 700 MNVN is set to launch in February, though a restrictive rollout will keep the availability limited for now. The YEEZY BOOST 700 MNVN’s first official colorway is “Triple Black,” a stealthy take on the sleek running shoe that mutes the streamlined upper — complete with reversed “700” — and familiar BOOST 700 sole unit. Unlike past YEEZY rollouts, the MNVN isn’t launching on the YEEZY Supply site or a variety of YEEZY-approved retailers across the globe. Instead, the MNVN will exclusively roll out in-store in New York, London and Tokyo, with affiliated retailers yet to be confirmed. Take a look at the YEEZY BOOST 700 MNVN “Triple Black” on YEEZY Supply ahead of its release on February 9 and expect detailed release information to emerge within the week. Most recently, the adidas YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 “Marsh” received its own official release date.

117 NEW EMOJIS SET TO RELEASE THIS YEAR

As we kick off a new year, 117 new emojis have been announced for smartphone devices in Emoji 13.0. The newest set of pictographs include emojis of food like bubble tea and green bell peppers, animals like a polar bear, seal and worm, organs like a heart and the lungs, footwear like roller skates and flip-flops and items like a military hard hat and a boomerang. Gender-inclusive offerings for Santa, plus an “Italian Hand” and ninja emojis with skin tone options also join the list. In addition, Android proposed five new designs that include gender variants, parents bottle feeding, hugging, empathy and the transgender flag. Jennifer Daniel, Google’s Design Director for the Android Emoji Program, explained that the company is building on their “ongoing effort to prioritize emoji that are more inclusive.” She adds, “We proposed support for all gender variants for “person in veil” and “person in tuxedo”, and introduced “person feeding baby with a bottle”.” Daniel also touched on the new childcare emoji, “Until this year, the only emoji that depicts childcare is the “BREASTFEEDING” emoji. Since a lack of breasts doesn’t preclude you from nurturing your child, we want to introduce an emoji that everyone can use.” Both Google and Microsoft sponsored the proposal of the Transgender emoji flag as well. Android also looked to expand on empathy with the “two people hugging” and the “slightly smiling face with tear” emojis. “With a new appreciation of how people use emoji, we have been looking into expressions and body language that emote empathy, which is often lost when not speaking face to face,” Daniel said. “Slightly smiling face with tear” is a visual metaphor for feeling simultaneous appreciation and relief. This mishmash of goodness with a dash of sadness is experienced in a number of ways: When you think of the past (#tbt) and retrieve positive memories or are thankful for elements of childhood. When you’re experiencing the present and not taking good fortune for granted as it comes. And, as you anticipate the future when you maintain a hopeful and optimistic attitude.”

LAKERS &LEBRON JAMES BID EMOTIONAL FAREWELL TO KOBE BRYANT

It’s been less than a week since the world lost Kobe Bryant and tributes to the NBA superstar continue to occur around the league. Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers honored Kobe with an emotional tribute as they hosted their first NBA game following his death. It was an emotional night at the Staples Center. In a heartbreaking pre-game ceremony, the Lakers saluted one of the league’s all-time greats, Kobe Bryant. Current Lakers superstar LeBron James gave a rousing speech. “Tonight we celebrate the kid that came here at 18, retired at 38 and became probably the best dad we’ve seen over the last three years,” James said, fighting back tears. “We’re all hurt and heartbroken.” James also honored the other victims who tragically died in the helicopter crash, including Bryant’s daughter Gianna (Gigi). He concluded by saying, “In the words of Kobe Bryant, Mamba out. But in the words of us, not forgotten. Live on, brother.” Watch his touching speech below.   "Tonight we celebrate the kid that came here at 18, retired at 38 and became probably the best dad we've seen over the last three years.” pic.twitter.com/0sS7e91cuz — Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) February 1, 2020    Ahead of the Lakers game James took to Instagram to unveil his new tattoo, a tribute to Bryant’s serpentine nickname Black Mamba, coiled around the two numbers he wore while playing for the team. “My brother,” he captioned the post. The pre-game tribute also featured a live rendition of “Amazing Grace” by Usher. Cellist Ben Hong followed this up by playing a rendition of “Hallelujah” as the accompaniment to a tribute video, which was narrated by Bryant himself. Boyz II Men also took the stage for an emotional delivery of the National anthem. The Lakers, who held a 24-second moment of silence, also saved seats for Kobe and Gigi, their courtside chairs adorned with each’s jersey and a bouquet of roses.   View this post on Instagram ❤️ My brother ♾ #Mamba4Life #RIPKobe #RIPGiGi A post shared by LeBron James (@kingjames) on Jan 31, 2020 at 4:21pm PST
