Al Pacino Wants Timothée Chalamet to Play Young Vincent Hanna in Possible 'Heat' Film Sequel

With Michael Mann writing a noel sequel to 1995’s classic Heat, actor Al Pacino has already decided which actor he would like to play a young version of Lt. Vincent Hanna. During the film’s 25th anniversary celebration — which was delayed by two years due to COVID-19 — at the Tribeca Festival, Pacino revealed that he could see Timothée Chalamet as Hanna. “I mean, he’s a wonderful actor. Great looks,” he said of the 26-year-old actor, and his answer was met with applause. The anniversary celebration of Heat featured a 4K screening of the film, a Q&A panel with Pacino and Robert De Niro, who played Neil McCauley and producer Art Linson. Elsewhere during the conversation, Pacino opened up about working with De Niro. “I’ve often said to people who have asked me about working with him, ‘You can do anything with Bob.’ No matter what you do, he’s going to hear it, react to it and connect to it,” he explained. “That’s a real luxury to be with someone like that. Because no matter what you do, he picks up on it. He’s always there, at the ready.” He added, “I guess it’s somewhat like tennis. On your films, you gotta keep hitting the ball over the net, and it gets to the other person. It’s all a smooth rhythm that you get if you listen.” Mann’s Heat followup novel will be released on August 9, but there is still no word on whether it will be turned into a film.

Jack Harlow and Drake Are Off to the Races in New "Churchill Downs" Video

Jack Harlow has dropped off the official video for his Drake collab “Churchill Downs,” off his recently released album Come Home the Kids Miss You. The video, which was filmed at the Kentucky Derby last month, sees Harlow in a warehouse filled with hundreds of baseball bats emblazoned with the song’s title, before switching between shots of the artist rapping from inside a private box at the namesake horse racing complex. Between slow-motion shots of the races, aerial views of a fun-filled carnival and views of packed crowds, the video tastefully encapsulates their experience at the top-tier derby. Later, Harlow appears on the big screen before Drake takes over for his verse, which he raps from the same floor-to-ceiling, glass-encased box in a silver button-up. Following shots of the duo playfully dancing together among a well-dressed entourage, the visual concludes with explosive shots of celebratory fireworks. The track appears on Harlow’s Come Home the Kids Miss You, which features 15 tracks and several additional appearances from artists including Pharrell on “Movie Star,” Justin Timberlake on “Parent Trap” and Lil Wayne on “Poison.” The chart-topper is now preparing to embark on a 22-stop North American tour in support of the record, which is scheduled to begin this fall, with an opening performance from City Girls. Mo Salah has a watch collection to match his trophy cabinet

Mo Salah may or may not attest but there seem to be a handful of mandatory luxury items on the ‘making big money as a footballer’ shopping list that, I imagine, gets handed out to every young player once they sign their first proper contract: a little monogrammed leather wash bag; something distressed from Amiri; a giant pair of trainers; a car that is just so, so fast. Too fast, really; something distressed from Balenciaga, and, of course, a brain surgeon’s/middling TikTok star’s annual salary slapped on your wrist. While some footballers opt for the shiniest watch possible to start a nascent collection, someone like a certain Mo Salah has a surprisingly curatorial approach to his watches. Dazzling on the pitch and low key off it, the Liverpool star’s watches favour performance over flash, although there’s still plenty to look at. Below we breakdown Salah’s impressive watch collection, from award-winning APs to some of the most complicated complications in fine watchmaking. Ulysse Nardin Freak Lab 18k white goldDespite being forced to hobble off in the first half, Mo Salah was still able to celebrate his first FA Cup win with Liverpool. With his hand around that famous old trophy and a customary winner’s smile on his face, he opted for the Ulysse Nardin Freak Lab in 18k white gold (Reference- 2100-138, which is very important obviously) for that essential wrist shot. Limited to just 99 pieces and famed for its highly technical design and performance, a “laboratory on the wrist” as the brand calls it, the Freak Lab is a tourbillon with a, as tourbillons go, elegant design. An alligator strap, 45mm white gold case and signature 7-day flying carrousel, which revolves on its axis on the dial. A cult range since it debuted in 2001, the Freak was the first watch to incorporate silicium (silicon) technology, which must have sealed the deal for Mo.Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore customised in Liverpool coloursIt turns out that being the best footballer in the Premier League comes with a few perks. Turning up to collect his award for the Football Writers Player of the Year award, a very special AP Royal Oak Offshore can be spotted on Salah’s wrist. We can verify that it is a custom job created for Salah, Jurgen Klopp and co to celebrate their Premier League winner back in 2020 – which is quite special really, isn’t it?An even sportier version of AP’s iconic Royal Oak, the Offshore debuted in 1993, with an increased 42mm case and a meticulously-crafted MÉGA-TAPISSERIE” dial, which is basically a nice textured finish on the dial, a house signature.  Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli-Skeleton Bastien Charrier Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli-Skeleton RDDBEX0747Now, this is a meaty boy. A big fat 45mm titanium case that is water-resistant to 50 metres, the Spider Pirelli-Skeleton features a highly intricate exposed movement, crafted in Geneva with a star-shaped bridge and powered by a micro rotor. Basically, it's one of the most detailed automatic movements in watchmaking. In collaboration with Pirelli (you might have guessed), the watch’s strap features rubber inlay sourced from championship-winning tyres used in real races. Which is… good? Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT.Diode SA - Denis Hayoun Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMTAfter their miraculous comeback against Barcelona (“corner taken quickly to ORIIGISBbvvsgsxa22gqaavsvzz!!!” is burned in my brain forever), and fairly routine dispatching off Tottenham, Salah wore one of his favourite pieces to celebrate his inaugural Champions League. A watch he’s been spotted with numerous times, the super-charged iteration of AP’s signature sports line, the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon is made out of sand-blasted titanium and black ceramic, with a 10 day power reserve and that famous octagonal case that, so the story goes, the legendary Gerald Genta designed in a night, inspired by the helmets worn by deep sea divers. Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire Taking the idea of a skeleton watch fairly literally, Hublot’s sapphire Big Bang is made from an incredibly clever (and top-secret) transparent material called ‘synthetic sapphire’ that is both able to reveal all the working parts of the watch from every angle. Everything from the case middle to the bezel is cut from a single piece of sapphire, before being polished into its eventual shape. An arduous process that means this special chromo is limited to 500 pieces, which is in keeping with Salah’s taste for wild, and highly limited, sports watches.Enter Liverpool FC striker Mo Salah, who has been spotted wearing some truly unusual choices which look futuristic and avant-garde, rather than expensive and tough. Last year, in a promotional shoot, Salah could be seen accessorising his Liverpool shirt with a Ulysse Nardin watch from the manufacturer’s Freak collection, whose strapline is “Laboratory on the wrist”. Here comes the science bit: the Freak is powered by an “anchor escapement” composed out of a series of nickel mass elements and micro blades that stabilise the movement’s motion through air friction. No, I’m not sure what that means either, but I love how the choice reveals a free-spirited sense of style from Salah. Urwerk-105 CT Streamliner Urwerk-105 CT StreamlinerHe also owns a Urwerk-105 CT Streamliner – which proves Salah really is into his watches from a design and engineering perspective, rather than to show off to his teammates. Inspired by the art deco skyscrapers of New York, the Streamliner doesn’t even have a dial per se. Instead, you slide open a catch on the octagonal case to revel in the inner workings of the “wandering hours” mechanism. “When it is closed, it looks austere, with only the time indication visible,” say the designers. “Open the protective cover and you delve into a metallic environment of cool efficiency.”

And the Oscar of Fashion Goes To: Menswear

The LVMH Prize, which is basically the biggest award a young designer can win, is pretty good at spotting the next big things in fashion. Marine Serre, who won in 2017, is leading the industry’s turn toward regenerative fashion. Simon Porte Jacquemus, class of 2015, has set the bar for buzzy celebrity dressing and viral runway moments to new heights. 2016 winner Grace Wales Bonner’s Adidas sneaker collabs are on the feet of just about every downtown creative in every city on earth. This year’s winners were announced this morning. And in yet another sign that some of the most interesting ideas in fashion are coming from menswear, the jury—designers Kim Jones, Stella McCartney, Nigo, Jonathan Anderson, and Silvia Venturini Fendi, among others—cast their votes for a trio whose menswear roots run deep. Taking home the top prize was Steven Stokey Daley of S.S. Daley, famously one of Harry Styles’ favorite labels. The runners-up (who received the second annual Karl Lagerfeld Prize) were two Americans: Dior collaborator Eli Russel Linnetz of ERL, and slow fashion specialist Idris Balogun of Winnie New York. From left: Eli Russell Linnetz, Steven Stokey Daley, and Idris Balogun Saskia LAWAKS In a Zoom interview after the awards were announced, Linnetz and Balogun were still processing the fact that they’re now, essentially, the torch-bearers for emerging American men’s fashion. “At least for the next year!” Linnetz said. Balogun added: “We didn’t even realize till somebody else said it. It’s beautiful, because we both have very dynamic things to say, Eli from Venice Beach and me from my background of Nigerian heritage through London to New York.” Of all the designers nominated for the prize, Linnetz might have the most established brand, in terms of pop cultural awareness. He pulled off one of the most memorable moments of last year’s Met Gala by dressing A$AP Rocky in a prom tuxedo and massive quilt cape, and last month guest-designed Dior’s sunscreen-soaked Spring 23 collection with Kim Jones. Winnie New York, by contrast, is still fairly niche. As of this morning, Winnie has just shy of 9,000 Instagram followers, and Balogun is more a deep researcher and patternmaking perfectionist than pop cultural savant. Balogun—a Burberry and Tom Ford alum—specializes in quiet luxury: blazers finished with painstaking hand details learned at his first Savile Row job, which he landed at age of 14.   Still, as they tell it, both reached the same point by following an unexpected creative north star: Lagerfeld himself. Like Lagerfeld, Linnetz is a photographer and an obsessive imagemaker who tightly controls and creative-directs every visual detail that his brand puts out into the world. “I feel like a lot of people take for granted his work and don’t really recognize him as that, but he created so much iconography,” Linnetz said. Balogun, meanwhile, emulates Lagerfeld’s obsessive attention to the finer details of clothing construction, and pointed to the art-obsessed Lagerfeld for inspiring him to work with artists like Alida Rodrigues. A model wearing S.S. Daley Saskia LAWAKS Daley’s win, meanwhile, vaults him to the top of London’s flourishing menswear scene. “It just feels like the highest form of validation ever,” he said shortly after Cate Blanchett handed him his trophy. S.S. Daley might be the youngest brand to ever win the LVMH Prize—the 26-year-old designer only launched his label in 2020, under covid lockdown. But Daley quickly cornered a very modern formula for success in menswear. His suits, cut with voluminous, fluid proportions, grabbed the attention of London stylist Harry Lambert, who works with Harry Styles. Styles wore floral trousers and linen shirts from Daley’s first collection in the music video for Golden, and the rest was basically history. All of a sudden, Daley had a platform, and he used it to define what he calls the New British Wardrobe: menswear staples, but sexier and more queer and—crucially—ecologically sustainable. Daley offers many garments through pre-order to reduce waste, and most of his fabrics are deadstock or vintage. (A recent pre-order for a cardigan special-ordered by Styles led to “quite a few” sales,” Daley said with a smile.) With the 300,000-euro prize money, Daley says he wants to expand his capacity to produce garments locally. As for how he’s celebrating? There are some parties and cocktails he had to get ready for, Daley said. But first: “I actually haven’t talked to my family yet! So I’d like to go do that,” he said.

Porsche Invests “Eight-Figure Sum” in Croatian EV Manufacturer Rimac

Porsche has invested in EV supercar company Rimac, TechCrunch reported. The Croatian-based company, which was founded in 2009, said it raised $536 million USD in funds that will aid in its global expansion as an EV supplier. Rimac was valued at $2.2 billion USD in a Series D investment round led by Softbank Vision Fund 2 and Goldman Sachs. Alongside those investments, Porsche reportedly contributed an “eight-figure sum” and now owns 20% of Rimac. Founder and CEO Mate Rimac, meanwhile, is still the largest shareholder of Rimac. According to TechCrunch, the funding will be utilized to hire new employees, build an approximately $200 million USD campus for the company in Zagreb, Croatia and further the development of EV batteries and software. The hypercar division of Rimac merged with French carmaker Bugatti last year.
