Louis Vuitton SS22 "Amen Break" Shows Nike AF1 Collab and a Wardrobe for All Occasions

Virgil Abloh continues to redefine Louis Vuitton (PARIS:MC.PA -0.55%) , as for Spring/Summer 2022 the film, titled Amen Break, depicts something of a dystopian future that’s isolated, eerie, and is full of mystery and performance. The show’s name itself is taken from the 1969 track “Amen, Brother” by the soul group the Winstons, of which the drum sample became one of the most referenced pieces of music in various genres — especially drum ‘n’ bass and jungle. With this in mind, “The film reflects on a historic moment in Black art and culture when electronic music and hip hop emerged like twins from the same egg, and trickled into every part of the globe,” as told by Louis Vuitton. Music plays a huge part in this sequence of acts for SS22, with the opening scene being dictated by a spoken word piece that backs a scene where models walk and dance their way through baron desert towards a portal. Entering the portal, they vanish and reappear in a cold, Narnia-like world filled with birch trees. While this concept of entering a room feels much like Louis Vuitton’s FW21 presentation, Abloh plays with an entirely new storyline, which came to life thanks to the film’s director Mahfuz Sultan. In short, Amen Break tells a story “about a father and son united by an unnamed loss, crossing a dream world to deliver a message to the other side.” In terms of narrative, it’s informed by Lupe Fiasco and his father, an African drummer and member of the Black Panther Party, who encouraged the study of martial arts which, in turn, has helped Fiasco teach peace, understanding and empowerment to a new generation of kids. With this in mind, the story now unfolds.

PALM ANGELS x MISSONI CAPSULE COLLECTION

In a natural, yet unexpected collision, Palm Angels and Missoni have come together to celebrate the progression of Italian craft. Known for its relentless shifting of codes with Francesco Ragazzi at the helm, Palm Angels looked to continue its irreverent agenda by tapping into the iconicism of Missoni, one of the longest-standing Italian brands. For the capsule collection, Ragazzi worked closely with Angela Missoni to form a street leaning range that builds on the patterns and lengths, of colors, volumes and shapes of Missoni. Boxy tailoring is accented by smudging spray paint that accompanies bold branding displays drawn from Missoni’s archives found throughout. The contemporary outlook resulted in a mix of tracksuits, zip-up cardigans, hooded sweatshirts, oversized T-shirt dresses, trousers and skirts defined by a tropical feel. Other items include berets, shoulder bags, totes, sneakers and sandals that continue the irreverent collision. “Missoni is an authentic landmark of Italian creation and artisanal know-how. With this collaboration, we wanted to offer a different take, my own take actually, on the Missoni heritage. A fusion of both DNAs, with an urban, relaxed feel,” says Francesco Ragazzi. “I have been drawn to Francesco’s work with Palm Angels from the very beginning, for its unique energy. My parents founded Missoni on an open mindset: a pioneering spirit which I brought forward through all the collaborations I developed over the years. I am particularly proud of how fresh and spontaneous the dialogue with Palm Angels came out,” says Angela Missoni. The Palm Angels x Missoni capsule will be available on Palm Angels and Missoni’s websites, at retail locations and from select retailers June 30.

Facebook Is Bringing a New Visual Search Tool for Instagram Shopping

Facebook launching a new visual search tool to help Instagram shoppers better use the platform to find what they want to buy. CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke about the new feature in a live audio room on Facebook, explaining that the company is still in the early development stages of building the camera-based research tool. The new feature resembles competitors Snapchat and Pinterest visual search operations, both of which have heavily invested in over the years. Instagram expects that the visual search tool will be able to provide shoppers with multiple options of similar products, while also alerting them where it could be available on the app. It is said that the camera feature will allow the user to find products using their cameras or images directly from their camera roll. Zuckerberg explains, “When you find something you’ll be able to tap on it and find similar products that people across all of our shops are selling the moment that you see something that you like. We think that visual search is going to be really helpful in making photos shoppable Instagram overall.” The shopping feature was also announced that it will soon be added to Facebook Marketplace and WhatsApp. Facebook is also working on bringing “Shops ads” to the platforms to better allow businesses to target ads based on users’ individual shopping preferences.

Instagram May Soon Allow Users to Post From Their Computer

Instagram is testing out a new feature that will allow users to post photos from their computers, a long-requested feature currently missing from the social media site’s web browser version. Matt Navarra, a social media consultant, first spotted the feature on Thursday and posted screenshots to Twitter. The screenshots appear to show that the feature will allow users to tag a location, add alt text, apply filters and edit photos directly from their computer—all the things that users can only currently do in the Instagram mobile app. “We know that many people access Instagram from their computer. To improve that experience, we’re now testing the ability to create a Feed post on Instagram with their desktop browser,” a Facebook company spokesperson told HYPEBEAST. The feature isn’t available for everyone just yet, though Navarra predicted that Instagram’s decision to potentially add desktop posting is part of a bigger plan to compete with the likes of TikTok and YouTube. It would also subvert the usage of third-party platforms to upload photos via desktop.   NEW! @Instagram lets you create + publish posts via desktop! pic.twitter.com/JWzwKg1kyO — Matt Navarra (@MattNavarra) June 24, 2021

Dior Debuts Full Travis Scott Collaboration at Paris Fashion Week

Anticipation for Dior (PARIS:CDI.PA +0.00%) ‘s Summer 2022 menswear show has been building since the house announced plans for a blockbuster Travis Scott collaboration. The partnership between Scott and Kim Jones — who appeared together at the end of the show — marked a new direction for Dior, representing the first time a musician had ever collaborated on a full collection. The show itself was also soundtracked by Scott, who teased new music throughout. Throughout the collection, Dior house codes were mixed with Cactus Jack motifs. A series of large cacti appeared across the set, with cactus brooches and imagery featuring throughout the collection. Another collaborative highlight was a new logo, mixing Dior’s branding with Cactus Jack, while other items were adorned with artwork by George Condo and Dior’s historic Oblique pattern was recreated to read “Jack.” Prior to the show, Scott also unveiled a T-shirt from the collaboration, dedicated to the late Pop Smoke. In terms of footwear, the stand-out introduction was the skate-inspired B713 silhouette. As unveiled by footwear designer Thibo Denis, the sneaker came in a range of colorways and featured the special Dior logo on the heel, as well as CD branding on the tongue. Speaking to HYPEBEAST before the show, Kim Jones discussed the origins of the collaboration. “I met Travis six years ago and we’ve been in constant touch since then,” the artistic director explained. “And I started talking to Travis about the Foundation he wants to set up to allow students to go to college at Parsons School of Design that can’t afford to go and fulfil their dreams. So I thought it was nice to then talk to him and say, why don’t we do something together? Because then you’re working with a fashion brand and a couture house that can support this project as well.” Jones goes on to say that, “The inspiration came really from the meeting of the worlds of Christian Dior and Travis Scott, particularly their gardens. So the set is designed that you come from Travis’ garden in Texas to Christian Dior’s childhood garden in Granville.”
