TWA HOTEL TURNS VINTAGE AIRPLANE INTO RETRO COCKTAIL BAR

The TWA terminal at New York City’s JFK airport reopened earlier this year after undergoing an 18-year renovation project to become a hotel. Most recently, the hotel turned a 1958 Lockheed Constellation L-1649A airplane named Connie into a glamorous retro-themed cocktail bar that sits adjacent to the hotel. Staying true to the aircraft’s initial design, the renovation keeps a notable amount of its original features intact, including its window curtains, passenger seats and cockpit. The new space serves as a continuation of the airport terminal-turned-hotel, carrying over its iconic red carpet as the main design connection. Additionally, it features tables designed by TWA terminal’s architect, Eero Sarinen.  The middle section of the plane is kept open, allowing space for visitors to move around the cabin. Suede sofa seating lines the edges on both sides, along with sleek accompanying tables. Towards the back of the plane, three rows of passenger seats remain, but they are outfitted in new plaid and leather seat covers designed by Aaron Sciandra. Each pair of seats is given a table to hold drinks. The project’s leader, Stonehill Taylor’s Sara Duffy, furnished the space with a combination of vintage and modern designs in order to keep its 1960s aesthetic authentic. Learn more about the TWA hotel over on its website, and visit both spaces at the address below. TWA HotelOne Idlewild Drive JFK International AirportNew York, NY 11430

OVER 267 MILLION FACEBOOK USER DATA LEAKED ON DARK WEB

According to reports, more than 267 million Facebook users IDs, phone numbers, and names have been exposed to the Dark Web. Reported by Comparitech and security researcher Bob Diachenko, info was found in a database that was accessible without the use of a password, with researchers believing the data was gathered as part of an illegal scraping operation or Facebook API abuse. Although this database was exposed for nearly two weeks, Diachenko reported it to the service providing managing its IP address. According to Engadget, a spokesperson has stated: “We are looking into this issue, but believe this is likely information obtained before changes we made in the past few years to better protect people’s information.” Earlier in September, a security researcher found a similar database with 419 million recordsconnected to Facebook accounts. 50 million accounts were hacked last September due to hackers exploiting a “vulnerability” in Facebook’s “View As” feature. Of course, prior to that, Facebook exposed 87 million users’ data to Cambridge Analytica, sparking a scandal that saw CEO Mark Zuckerberg summoned to Washington to testify before both the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Senate Judiciary and Commerce committees. In other tech news, Apple has entered the satellite business in order to beam data directly to your devices.   A database containing personal details of more than 267 million #Facebook users was allegedly left exposed on the web, according to a report from Britain-based tech research firm #Comparitech and security researcher #BobDiachenko.https://t.co/eHThWDRqfF — DT Next (@dt_next) December 20, 2019

A BETTER FEELING DROPS CLEAR ACETATE GSANDO SUNGLASSES

Emerging minimalist eyewear label A BETTER FEELING has released a pair of its GSANDO sunglasses in an all-new clear makeup. This iteration of the GSANDO is composed of solid titanium and acetate, with the rectangular metal used for the arms and the latter forming the stretched D-shaped lenses. Sporting a hefty profile, the chunky GSANDO frames and black UV-protected lenses are offset by the sleek arms that hook around the wearer’s ears. A BETTER FEELING has complemented the mix of materials with a muted tonal color palette of grey titanium and clear acetate. Interchangeable razor plates on the arms lend a unique finish, with the brand’s moniker engraved into the side as standard. On the inside, notes from a music sheet are engraved into the arm. Rounding out the architectural design is a sturdy set of heavy-duty screws and further use of clear acetate for the end of the arms. Pick up a pair of the new frames on A BETTER FEELING’s website.

INSTAGRAM NOW FLAGS POTENTIALLY OFFENSIVE CAPTIONS BEFORE USERS POST

Instagram recently rolled out a new feature that alerts users when they are about to post a potentially offensive caption. Now, when Instagram’s AI detects a caption that it believes could be offensive, it displays a pop-up that encourages the user to think before hitting “post,” which reads “This caption looks similar to others that have been reported.” The social media platform recognizes its role in online bullying and hopes this new feature will encourage its users to “pause and reconsider” their words before sharing them with the world. Instagram already rolled out a similar feature for comments earlier this year, which it states has shown promising results. To create these new features, Instagram’s team developed and tested AI that is able to identify various types of bullying on the platform. If a user ever encounters the pop-up notification, they will be given the option to edit their caption, learn more about Instagram’s terms and conditions or go ahead and post the flagged content. It is important to note that Instagram will not actually block users from posting their potentially offensive captions. Instagram has confirmed that this new feature has already begun in select countries ahead of its global rollout, which will happen over the next few months.
