Go Hard or Goyard "Jet Black" Series

World-renowned purveyor of luxury leather goods, Goyard, is launching the ultimate line of fall accessories with its "Jet Black" series. Branding rules the world. Think of soft drinks, and Coca-Cola comes to mind. Fries? McDonalds. Luxury French leather goods? Goyard. When you see a Goyard piece, its Chevron pattern is unmistakable. For this, we can thank the brand's extensive history that spans over two centuries, but we can't overlook its adoption by hip-hop artists over the years for giving Goyard cross-cultural relevance within the mainstream. Through the discographies of Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, Pharrell, and Big Sean (to name a few), you'll find references to the luxury brand littered amongst their lyrics. As such, there is no shortage of images showing hip-hop's love affair with a color spectrum of Chevron-monogrammed pieces – Kanye, Virgil, and co at Paris Fashion Week 2009, anybody? With the "Jet Black" series, gone are the traditional browns or bold pops of red, yellow, and green we're used to seeing the monogram finished in. As the name would suggest, each piece in this collection is executed in deep black, perfect for fall. Goyard released the same colorway as a men's limited edition run in October 2019, with this upcoming launch bringing the finish to a selection of women's styles. The series consists of seven bag options that feature a painted chevron monogram that differs slightly on each piece made. Goyard's "Jet Black" series is available now via Goyard boutiques.

HOW MUCH DOES KANYE WEST FIT COST?

DONDA-era Ye has given us a lot to ponder over the past few months. He's helped us find a newfound appreciation for Demna Gvasalia's subversive designs, made a solid argument for why Fivio Foreign is fiercely underrated, reminded us of Margiela's lasting influence, and showed us how to dress if we are living "Off the Grid." In a rare appearance/interview with the fit-whisperer Chris Smoove, Yeezy breaks down his fall-ready outfit...kind of. For the uninitiated, Smoove has built a platform by hilariously interviewing random people and celebrities on the street, with his most notorious series being, "How much does your fit cost"? Ye participated (and we’re using that term very loosely) in the latter. How much was Ye's hat? Mr. West doesn't know. How much did his glasses cost? Ye doesn't know. The shoulder-bag? Nah. The watch? Aha! Ye suddenly remembered that he dropped $200,000 on his wrist. To be honest, I would too. It's cheeky, absurd, and oh-so-Kanye. Could he be commenting on his current low-key lifestyle? Is he flexing on us, showing the public a billionaire doesn't even think about the price of their gear. Or, is Ye suffering from short-term amnesia again? Am I overthinking it? Probably. Whatever may be driving Kanye's current lapse in memory, we think we've cracked the code. From Balenciaga to PHIPPS, we've highlighted the entire look — prices included. Note that some items could not be 100 percent matched, so we’ve gone with a similar alternative. Shop Ye's "I don't know" look below. Phipps Hieroglyph Cap Hyeroglyph Cap $130 Phipps Though it may not be as mysterious as Ye's recent headwear choice, the PHIPPS Hieroglyph hat is almost just as cryptic. The Arctic-themed cap features a series of region-specific references that are right on brand with PHIPPS' adventurous and environment-inspired designs. It's a solid headwear pick in a fit-friendly colorway. Acne Studios Wool Blend Mittens Wool Blend Mittens $165 Acne Studios A reliable pair of mittens can go a long way during the colder months. No one likes cold fingers. Acne Studios has a quality pair for you that won't look awkward on the move. It's a warmer alternative to Mr. West's finger gloves. Acne Studios Hoodie Hoodie $405 Acne Studios Though there are plenty of hoodies worth a look at, I'd argue that Acne Studios does the simple black hoodie the best. Today's hoodie is comfy — made from extra soft cotton — slightly oversized and features a kangaroo pocket big enough for random goodies and warmth. Acne just knows how to do quality staples. Balenciaga Logo-Embroidered Track Pants Logo-Embroidered Track Pants $950 Balenciaga If you want to go full DONDA-era, you will need some Balenciaga. Sweatpants are an obvious pick. These luxurious staples are wide-leg — a trend that won't be going anywhere anytime soon — and include a subtle Balenciaga logo. Balenciaga Explorer Pouch Explorer Pouch $650 Balenciaga If you have too many goodies, we recommend that you pick up a shoulder bag. The Balenciaga Explorer Pouch is made from a durable recycled nylon and has the right amount of room for your daily essentials and a DONDA STEM Player. Balenciaga X-Pander Sneakers X-Pander Sneakers $1250 Balenciaga After you've copped the sweatpants, get your hands on a pair of Balenciaga sneakers. The X-Pander is the Balenciaga Track sneaker gone bionic, featuring an athletic, weathered blue and gray upper and a massive suspended heel. It's the retro-futuristic sneaker that you have been looking for. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 41mm Open Worked Double Balance Wheel Royal Oak 41mm Open Worked Double Balance Wheel $213000 Audemars Piguet To top off the entire outfit, you are going to need a solid timepiece. And, if you have 200K in your pocket, Audemars Piguet has something for you. One of the most desired watches in the Audemars family, the timepiece comes with a stunning and intricate skeletonized watch face —with the watch's workhorse cal. 3132 movement on display. Available in a range of materials and precious metals, this iteration of the 41 mm watch is housed in a beautifully finished stainless-steel case. In short, it is a god-tier watch, well worth its price.

Chanel Limits Purchases of Most Popular Handbags to One per Customer Each Year

As reselling becomes a large component of the luxury market, luxury brands devised different ways to limit the number of purchases for their products to increase exclusivity. The latest fashion brand to do enforce certain measures is the French luxury house, Chanel. Starting this month, Chanel has officially changed its sale policy for its most popular handbags, the “Classic Flap Bag” and the “Coco Handle.” Each customer will only be allowed to purchase one of each of the handbags per year. A new policy was also put in place for their small leather goods products, limiting consumers to purchasing no more than two of the same product per year. Though Chanel has raised the prices of its most popular products three times already this year, their handbags are still a hot commodity amongst fashion luxury buyers. Many consumers around the world queue at early hours in the morning to ensure they get a chance to make the purchases. Over the years, luxury brands have limited the number of handbags customers can buy in response to the number of resellers buying out stocks. Hermès recently also limited the number of bags their consumers can purchase as only one person can buy the same design twice a year.

Virgil Abloh and Mercedes-Maybach's "Project MAYBACH" Will Redefine Luxury Electric Travel

Multidisciplinary designer, Off-White™ founder, and Louis Vuitton artistic director Virgil Abloh is back co-designing cars, as Mercedes-Maybach has just announced that it has teamed up with Abloh on “Project MAYBACH.” Following on from September 2020’s “Project Geländewagen” partnership, which saw Abloh turn the G-Class into a race car of sorts, the designer has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener once again to create an electric show car under the luxurious Mercedes-Maybach division. Mercedes-Maybach produces some of the finest automobiles on the market, known for their unrivaled levels of luxury and prestige that equates to cars you often want to be driven in, not drive yourself. The upcoming collaborative show car is to be shown at Art Basel Miami Beach on December 1, 2021, and is said to be unlike anything previously seen from Mercedes-Benz. Bettina Fetzer, Vice President of Communications and Marketing Mercedes-Benz AG, says: “A combination of the technical perfection of Mercedes-Benz, and the aspirational exclusivity of Maybach, Mercedes-Maybach offers a highly unique experience for our most discerning customers. We are excited to inspire both existing and new audiences to re-think what they thought they knew about this iconic brand, with our trusted partner, Virgil Abloh.” Abloh adds, “The Maybach legacy celebrates exploration, pushing creativity to new places, living outside of the status quo. In this next phase, we’re embracing these ideals and bringing the Mercedes-Maybach heritage into the future, inviting the next generation to join in revering this icon. Together we’re entering a new age of discovery.” Wagener concludes, saying, “With ‘Project MAYBACH’ we define the next level of luxury… After 100 years, we transform the brand into a luxury electric future. Together with Virgil, we are writing a new rule book for Mercedes-Maybach.” Indeed, the future of Mercedes-Benz — let alone the Maybach division — is looking towards being all-electric. Just last month, the marque showcased its Concept EQS, a luxury SUV that aims to take environmentally-friendly travel into a new realm, one which is responsible and reflective of the needs of the planet. Abloh and Wagener’s show car will continue in the footsteps of the Concept EQS, pushing the boundaries of “function, style and collaborative creativity.” Stay tuned to HYPEBEAST for more information as news unfolds.

TikTok User Claims Netflix Botched 'Squid Game' Subtitles, Completely Changing Meaning of Show

Netflix‘s Squid Game has taken over the world since the release of the show on the streaming giant. In just a few days, the show instantly became a viral sensation and became one of the biggest shows ever. First arriving to Netflix in September, the Korean-language show follows a group of people who were recruited by a mysterious organization to compete in life or death games. TikTok user Youngmi Mayer recently took to the social media platform to claim that the English subtitles have completely altered the meaning of the original script. Mayer, who is fluent in Korean said, “The dialogue was written so well and zero of it was preserved.” She gives a series of examples, including one where a character in the series tries to convince others to play the game with her. The caption read, “I’m not a genius, but I still got it worked out.” Mayer explains that the more correct translation of the phrase would be, “I am very smart, I just never got a chance to study.” She continues to say that, “Almost everything she says is being botched translation-wise… the writers, all they want you to know about her is that. Seems so small, but it’s the entire character’s purpose of being in the f***ing show.” Mayer later takes to Twitter to explain that translation work is often neglected in the TV/film world and that translators are grossly underpaid in comparison to other roles. Check out her TikTok explanation and Tweets below.
