Sydney Pollack’s 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider Is Up for Auction

Sydney Pollack’s previously owned 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS is up for auction courtesy of RM Sotheby’s. The vehicle was the 31st of 121 GTS/4 Daytona Spiders produced by Scaglietti in 1971 and 1-of-14 automobiles to feature an Argento Metallizzato bodywork. The convertible was purchased by H.J. Hoff, who later sold the model to Sydney Pollack in 1975. Ferrari’s cutting-edge 365 GTS features a water-cooled, front-facing V12 engine and open-top cabin. The two-seat grand tourer houses a five-speed manual transmission that revs to 259 kW at 7500 rpm with a maximum torque of 431 N⋅m. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sydney Pollack sold the car to Alberto Amezcua of Mexico City. In 1981, Amezcua was strong-armed into selling the vehicle to a pawn shop owner loosely tied to the Mexican president José López Portillo. The model resurfaced in the States years after and found its way back in Amezcua’s possession, appearing in the 1993 FCA Vintage Ferrari Concours d’Elegance at the Quail Lodge. Vantage Motor Works acquired the vehicle in 1999 and authorized a full-body restoration, which was purchased by RM Sotheby’s. The vehicle has a mere 40,150 miles on the odometer and is auctioning between $2.4 and $2.8 million USD. For more information on the upcoming auction, check out RM Sotheby’s official website.

Virgil Abloh's Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 Collab Has a Release Date

This article was published January 3 and updated on January 19. The Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers immediately achieved iconic status when first seen in the summer of 2021 and again at Virgil Abloh's final LV runway show. Not hard to see why: they combine three cultural titans (Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh, Nike) into a plethora of special colorways both brash and quietly luxe. There's co-branded text done up in Abloh's signature style, quotation marks, monogrammed canvas, succulent leather uppers, references to bootleg culture — everything you'd need for a killer collab. It's worth considering that the launch was rumored to have been planned for late 2021 to coincide with the aforementioned Louis Vuitton runway show and then postponed out of respect for Abloh's passing. Nothing concrete there, of course, but details about these sneakers have been scarce since their reveal despite the impossibly high levels of hype. When asked by Highsnobiety to confirm or deny LV x Nike AF1 release dates in early January 2022, a Louis Vuitton representative explained that the shoes "do not yet have a launch date." However, in early 2022, a French sneaker reseller intimated that the collaborative kicks pointed to a February release date and flexed several pairs in intimate photos. Bear in mind that the rumors came from a sneaker resale site that promises "100% brand new and authentic" sneakers from third party sources. Highsnobiety cannot vouch for either its predictions or its services. Overseen by one Anthony Martin, it doesn't appear to have any particular insider access so it's not immediately clear where it's getting the LV x Nike release information from. In later communications with Louis Vuitton, Highsnobiety confirmed that the shoes' general release is currently not scheduled for February so it just goes to show that you can only take these rumors with a grain of salt. Then , on January 19, LV and Sotheby's announced that the collaborative LV x Nike AF1 will first launch through an auction on Sotheby's website held from January 26 to February 8 with bids beginning at $2,000 — expect them to go for much more by auction's end. According to LV, 200 pairs of the "precious" calf leather sneakers will be available in a wide variety of colors and sizes as part of the sale, and they'll each come with an exclusive orange leather Louis Vuitton pilot case, embossed with the house's monogram, fitted with a matching tag, and packed with adjustable storage that can fit an AF1 of any size. Sotheby's will actually exhibit the luxe kicks in its New York outpost from February 8 onwards so potential buyers and admirers can scope them IRL. The Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 will eventually see limited commercial launch through LV stores, though not for some time. 1 / 5 Proceeds from the sales will benefit Abloh's Fashion Scholarship Fund for Black students. LV reportedly has several likeminded initiatives to benefit Abloh's charity planned throughout this year and this auction is only the first.

Nigo's Debut Collection Transports KENZO into A New Era

Today, Nigo officially took over the reins from Felipe Oliveira Baptista as KENZO's Creative Director with his debut collection titled, "REAL-TO-WEAR." NIGO's Fall/ Winter Women’s and Men’s Show makes him the first Japanese designer to front the house since its founder Kenzo Takada. Back in 1970 (the year Nigo was born) Takada presented his first fashion show in the Galerie Vivienne on the backdrop of his new shop, Jungle Jap. Five decades later, Nigo makes his own debut for KENZO in the same arcade, "envisioning it as a tunnel toward the future and beyond the borders of fashion." Rather than developing a collection that is wholly street or luxurious, Nigo has taken a different path, taking the Kenzo story as his point of departure. Speaking to Vogue recently he explained, “Seeing the complete Kenzo archive, especially the early pieces from the ’70s, has kind of changed my perception about the entirety of the brand. Previously my perception of it was based very much in the 1980s designer fashion boom that I experienced when I was young in Japan.” Combing the KENZO archives, he came across pieces he had never seen before. His approach to the FW22 show showed a heightened study of pieces over looks, with Souvenir bomber jackets inspired by those historically commissioned in kimono fabrics by the American occupying forces in Japan and Nylon aviation jackets lined in shearling which continue the military theme.   The presentation today saw the BAPE founder define his vision for the luxury fashion house: "a meeting between the Maison’s heritage and his own contemporary codes." Takeda's three-button jacket enters into a dialogue with Nigo’s affinity for the subversive sartorialism of British subcultures. Meanwhile, sturdy coverall jackets and workwear emblazoned with the archival Poppy Print reflect Nigo’s idea of “impractical workwear.” The show soundtrack features an exclusive preview of the designer’s upcoming album I Know Nigo with contributions from A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, Teriyaki Boyz, Tyler, the Creator and Lil Uzi Vert.

Here’s Your First Look at the sacai x Nike Cortez

Highsnobiety aims to provide our readers with the latest updates in the sneaker world. However, we cannot verify the reliability of any unauthorized leaks or rumors unless this information is provided directly by the brands themselves. Following rumors of a sacai x Nike Cortez, the Japanese label has given us our first official look at the upcoming release via its FW22 collection unveiling. The sneaker, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, will arrive in at least two colorways. The first is the original white and red pair with blue and gray accents, while the other is a more muted blue and grqy version. Both feature sacai’s signature double-everything approach, including a double Swoosh, tongue, and laces. The sole features a mix between the Cortez’ classic ridged outsole and an Air Zoom bubble at the forefoot taken from some of Nike’s more contemporary designs, such as the Alphafly or Air Zoom Type. The Cortez is Nike’s first-ever shoe, which was designed by Bill Bowerman back when Nike was still Blue Ribbon Sports and distributing sneakers for Onitsuka Tiger (ASICS) in North America. sacai has a tendency to remix iconic archival models with contemporary styles, so it makes total sense that the Cortez is given a new lease of life by the brand during the model’s 50th anniverasry. There’s no word on when the sneakers will be released, though it’s likely we’ll be seeing them later in the year due to their inclusion in the FW22 collection. As always, stay tuned for information as we get it.

Balmain, Barbie & the Blockchain

Barbie's world is looking a lot different these days. Following an expansive collaboration with KITH, the doll-maker is once again entering the luxury fashion sphere, this time with Balmain. The French maison, no stranger to the wild world of NFTs, is ushering Barbie into the metaverse with a partnership that straddles the physical and digital world. IRL, the duo have released a ready-to-wear collection of Barbie x Balmain-branded apparel and accessories, rendered almost exclusively in shades of pink (obviously!). Denim jackets, handbags, and T-shirts sport a Barbie-fied version of the Balmain logo, while footwear and knitwear is printed with a hot pink rendering of the house's geometric monogram. On the blockchain, Barbie manufacturer Mattel launched an NFT auction — hosted by @mintnftofficial — offering up three unique Barbie avatars clad in digital renditions of the physical collection. Highest bidders will also receive a physical set of doll-sized Balmain clothing. NFTs continue to reign as the hot topic du jour, thanks to the increasing value of digital collectibles such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, RTFTK's Clone X Avatars, and Cryptopunks. It was only a matter of time before a toymaker as big as Mattel tapped into the blockchain. As the Balmain x Barbie auction approaches close, bids hover around $2,000. Sorry, kids — Balmain's version of the iconic toy isn't playing around.

A$AP Rocky & PacSun Kick Off 2022 With New Vans Collab

Editor's Notes: A$AP Rocky might not be having a baby with Rihanna, but the rapper does have a third Vans drop cooking. Our favorite Fashion Killa stepped out in New York City wearing the new silhouette from his Vans partnership in early December, showcasing the latest fruits from his tenure as PacSun's artistic director. PacSun The artist pulled up to Pacsun's Soho flagship fitted in an ERL puffer and coordinating ERL hoodie, paired with pants from his third AWGE x Needles collection. Finishing off the look are the soon-to-be-released pair of A$AP Wordwide x Vans Slip-Ons, decked out in orange flames that wrap around to the toe. Per PacSun, the shoes will release in early 2022 alongside new pairs of the Slip-On Mule. Back in July, PacSun broke the rather surprising news that A$AP Rocky would join the retailer as its first guest artistic director, a role that reportedly grants Flacko control over designer collaborations, campaigns, and in-store activations. The deal included a series of collaborations with Vans, a brand Rocky has a long history of wearing. "Vans have always been a closet staple," he said of his upcoming drop, which keeps with the fiery theme of his past two releases. Rocky's flame-accented takes on the Old Skool and Slip-On Mule will presumably kick off a full year of Rocky x PacSun drops, including more much-hyped sneakers and apparel.
