Martine Rose Rumored as Contender for Louis Vuitton Menswear Director

Martine Rose Rumored as Contender for Louis Vuitton Menswear Director

As originally reported by Vogue Business, Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke was seen front-row at Martine Rose‘s off-schedule Spring/Summer 2023 show in London over the weekend, leading many to speculate that the British-Jamaican menswear designer may be in contention for the monumental task of succeeding Virgil Abloh as artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear.

Founded in 2007, Martine Rose’s eponymous label has grown a considerable cult following over the years, often drawing inspiration from a variety of subcultures including hip-hop, rave, and punk. As Martine Rose readies its SS23 collection featuring a heavily-anticipated footwear collaboration with Nike, the label looks to be finally stepping into the limelight after a steady 15-year rise.

Martine Rose was shortlisted for the LVMH Prize back in 2017 and was nominated for the BFC‘s British Menswear Designer of the Year award in 2018 and 2017. Beyond establishing her own label, Rose’s past experiences include assisting Demna Gvasalia in launching Balenciaga menswear as a creative consultant.

As deliberations continue, neither LV nor Martine Rose have yet to respond to the rumors. In the meantime, Louis Vuitton’s next menswear show will arrive in Paris on June 23.
