SUPREME TEASES COLLAB WITH JAMAICAN DANCEHALL & REGGAE ICON BUJU BANTON

Supreme has just officially unveiled teasers for its upcoming collaboration with Jamaican dancehall and reggae great Buju Banton. Banton became a fixture in the music industry during the early ’90s with the release of two critically-acclaimed albums,Stamina Daddy and Mr. Mention. In fact, in 1992, the Kingston-born artist also broke Bob Marley’s record for the greatest number of #1 singles in a year in Jamaica. The 2000s saw even more success for Banton musically as he nabbed a Grammy for his album Before the Dawn in 2011 — his earlier works Rasta Got Soul in 2010 and Friends for Life in 2004 also received Grammy nomination nods. The reggae star also had some run-ins with authorities as he was arrested and charged in 2009 for conspiracy to distribute and possession of cocaine. He was convicted in 2011 and sentenced to 10 years in a federal prison — he has now been released since early December of 2018. Some of Banton’s most notable songs include “Murderer,” “Destiny,” “Champion,” and “Driver A” to name a few. As for the Supreme collab, there’s no official word on a release date but the recent photo hints that this could be an artist photo tee as seen in previous versions with other musicians who’ve fronted Supreme drops. Stay-tuned as we get more official product imagery and actual release date.

Brand: Louis Vuitton  Season: Pre-Spring 2020 Key Pieces: The new grain-effect translucent bags in slides 3 and 7 which are informed by a colored patchwork of archive Louis Vuitton Epi leathers. Release Date: 2020 Buy: Louis Vuitton Editor’s Notes: Virgil Abloh’s latest collection for Louis Vuitton encapsulates what the designer has been doing since day one: conflating the aesthetics of streetwear and new luxury. Classic motifs of street culture such as chains have been applied to quilted sweatshirts and denim pants, while unexpected art references from renaissance painter Raphael adorn a range of gilets, trench coats, and bomber jackets. As a storied luggage and leather goods brand, Louis Vuitton is acknowledging its roots yet remaining accessible for a younger demographic. A big part of this stems from what Abloh refers to as “accessomorphosis,” which sees bags transformed into street-ready garments, as seen throughout the collection.

KANYE WEST DEBUTS INCUBATOR PROGRAM, NEW FASHION BRAND

Of all the topics covered in Kanye West‘s appearance on David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, one notable point was kept under wraps: West’s plan to launch a fashion incubator. Going forward, the initiative will provide mentorship and financial assistance to “aspiring creatives in fashion, design, and more,” as Vogue notes. West famously interned at Fendi with Virgil Abloh before the pair stepped into the world of fashion; this incubator program is indicative of the rapper passing the torch to a new generation of creatives. Chicago-born Maisie Schloss is the grant’s first recipient; a Parsons graduate and former YEEZY womenswear designer, Schloss will receive input and aid from West as she prepares to launch Masie Wilen, her debut clothing line. In an email to Vogue, Schloss affirmed that “YEEZY is a really special environment for growing and developing a career. … Kanye very generously offered to support me; he truly cares about sharing resources, creating opportunities for creatives to grow and be recognized.” This week, Schloss will introduce Masie Wilen at a highly-exclusive event in Los Angeles, before hosting another presentation in Paris in late June. “My first collection is inspired by rhythmic gymnastics and robotics,” Schloss continued. “Strongly driven by print, the clothes themselves are playful and fashion-forward but rooted in very wearable shapes.” Expect the LA premiere to showcase an expansive Resort collection, with 85 items ranging in price from $100 USD to $900 USD.

THE JUDGE HAS SIDED WITH YEEZY IN THE FABRIC SUPPLIER LAWSUIT, BUT IT’S NOT OVER YET

Back in January it was revealed that Kanye West and his label YEEZY are being sued for failing to pay a fabric vendor, as reported by People. Japanese fabric company Toki Sen-I Co. claimed the label failed to pay more than $600,000 in outstanding debts. According to the report, the lawsuit was filed against Yeezy Apparel, LLC and stated that West attempted to trick Toki Sen-I Co. out of money by “creating a fake company.” The total sum Toki Sen-I Co. claims is owed amounts to $624,051. The fabric company, which says it started working with West in 2015, said the problems began when West placed a huge order for fleece fabrics in June 2018 and then refused to meet the downpayment. Toki Sen-I Co. claimed that Yeezy Apparel, LLC is a “sham” company operating without capital assets or member interest run by West to avoid personal liability. However, the judge presiding over the case in the Superior Court of California has sided with YEEZY, at least for the time-being. YEEZY and West’s lawyers lodged a demurrer — basically a response to a complaint that says even if it is true, there is no basis for a lawsuit — against Toki Sen-I Co.’s four causes of action. Judge Cotton sustained the demurrer, but is allowing Toki Sen-I Co. to rework its complaints with more precise terms. Head over to The Fashion Law for the full, legal explanation of the case so far. The parties are due back in court in August. More updates to follow.
