Artist Shl0ms Sets Lamborghini Huracan in Flames to Oppose Crypto Greed
Conceptual artist and crypto-dadaist Shl0ms brings the heat with limited edition NFTs showcasing the aftermath of an exploded Lamborghini Huracan sports car to shed light on greed arising from monetary motivation in cryptocurrency. The artist believes cryptocurrency should be more than just a get-rich-quick scheme and a zero-sum game but rather used for positive benefits.
In an interview with Fortune, Shl0ms indicated that the project was not to criticize crypto culture but to protest the rise of seeing it only for speedy monetary purposes.
“I’ve chosen to leave it up to other people to value my art,” Shl0ms told Fortune.
Dubbed as “$CAR,” Shl0ms and his team took the car — purchased for $250,000 — to a deserted location in the stateside and blew it up with the company of a licensed explosives engineer after two weeks of testing. The remains of the destruction were divided into 999 NFT projects with 888 open for auction to the public and 111 are reserved for the team and investors. Starting at 0.01 ETH, each NFT will release with a 4K video with special features and introductions with proceeds from the auction to be used to fund public art installations.
The NFTs were initially to be released on February 25 and have now been postponed due to the current world events. Further information and updates can be followed through Shl0ms’ website.
