In an official statement made on his Instagram account, iconic French designer Manfred Thierry Mugler has died at age 73.
Accompanied by a black square, the statement reads, “We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23rd 2022. May his soul Rest in Peace.” No further details regarding the cause of death have been made available.
Born in Strasbourg, France, Mugler established his career in fashion in London, playing a part in the Swinging Sixties movement. Mugler would go on to launch his eponymous fashion house, Mugler, in the 1970s, making a name for himself with his theatrical haute couture defined as avant-garde, architectural and hyperfeminine.
Thierry Mugler would officially retire from fashion in 2002 but returned as Creative Adviser for Mugler in 2013.
