Domino's Pizza to Begin Autonomous Robot Deliveries

Domino’s Pizza will now be getting robots to do deliveries. So far, the new operation is being tested in just Houston, Texas, but it’s still a pretty neat milestone for the future of autonomous services.

Domino’s autonomous delivery system is made possible by Nuro‘s R2 robot, announced just two years ago. According to Domino’s, the R2is the first fully functional self-driving delivery vehicle that’s been approved by the Department of Transportation. Residents of Woodland Heights in Houston will get to choose the option of getting the R2 to deliver their pizzas. R2’s journey can be tracked through period text notifications. To ensure customers safely get their orders, Domino’s will provide PIN codes for customers to input on R2’s touchscreen to retrieve their pizzas.
